The TIPEC 2021 conference took place On July 30, 2021 fully online. This year’s theme was focused on the Intersection of Collaborative Practice and Social Determinants of Health. It began with an informal pre-conference networking session with the Board of Directors followed by an introductory panel of esteemed health care experts entitled Determinants, Disparities, and Interprofessional Care to kick off the meeting. Janette Dumas Pepper, OD, FCOVD; Associate Professor and Coordinator of Student Diversity & Inclusion from Southern College of Optometry moderated the session. She was joined by Patricia Scott, DPN, RN, PNP, NCSN; Consultant for the Tennessee Department of Health Office of Primary Prevention; Monique Anthony, MPH; Director of Minority Health & Disparities Elimination, TN Department of Health and Karen Winkfield, MD, OHD; Executive Director, Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance. The role of social determinants of health on the health of Tennessee and ways health professionals exacerbate health disparities was discussed at length. Skills that novice professionals need to enter the health workforce was also provided. A post-panel debrief session was held with attendees on these topics to unpack them further. The TCPS pilot was introduced and is currently underway for students. Through an application process, TCPS provides recognition to graduating students who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to interprofessional practice and collaboration.
